                          The Yateley Society

Minutes of the Executive Committee meeting held at Barclay House, Yateley, on 22 November 1988 at 8pm.

Present

Richard Johnston, Valerie Kerslake, Malcolm Pope, Tony Hocking, Geoff Hoare, Irene Draper, Diana Healey, Margaret Taylor(part), Jill Howell (part), Michael Holroyd (part).

1. Apologies Debra Reading.

2. Minutes of the meeting held on Monday 16 October 1988.

Amendments:

For "Malcolm Holroyd" read "Michael Holroyd" throughout. 

For "Jill Pattendon" read "Stephanie Pattendon". 

Under 7. Conservation: delete "and that perhaps it should have a committee".

Under 4 Natural History: For "Kurn" read "Kern".

After these amendments the minutes were approved, but in the absence of the Secretary were not available to be signed as such.

3. Matters Arising

    3a) Postcards.  Malcolm Pope reported that delivery was expected any day.  Valerie Kerslake raised the question of pricing policy.  Decided that the price to retailers should be cost plus a penny plus the remaining fraction of a penny.

    b) Local Societies' Fair. Tony Hocking reported this had gone as planned and had been worth supoorting.  For similar future events it would be an advantage to have items to sell that related to the Society.

    c) Photo-copier. Malcolm Pope had not yet got prices.

    d) Chris Hall's report.  It was agreed that it needed to be wordprocessed.  Malcolm Pope and Margaret Taylor would investigate the possibilities.

    g) Rubbish Bins.  Charles Craven was not available to report. Tony Hocking had noticed that some bins had been destroyed by fire, and concrete ones had been substituted.

4 Countryside Committee

A meeting had been held which had encouraged the enthousiasm of those who attended.  The Chairman reminded the subcommittee of the need to develop concrete proposals for the conduct of about three campaigns.

5. Next Years Committee, AGM, Annual Report.

    a) The position concerning next years Committee was as follows:

     1) Chairman: Malcolm Pope was asked if he would stand.  He said he would let the chairman know within a week. 

     2) Vice Chairman: Tony Hocking

     3) Treasurer: Charles Craven

     4) Secretary: Jill Howell

     5) Membership Secretary: Geoff Hoare

     6)  Social Secretary: Mrs Treadwell and Valerie Pope were to be appraoched.

     7) History, Commons & Rights of Way: Michael Holroyd

     8) Natural History: no one seemed to be interested in pursuing this: somneone might emerge from the Countryside subcommittee.

     9) Conservation: Valerie Kerslake

     10) Walks & visits: Irene Draper.

     11) Archivist: Diana Healey

     12) Publicity: Margaret Taylor

The following agreed to serve as Committee members: Geoff Hoare, Diana Healey, Michael Holroyd, Malcolm Pope, Valerie Kerslake, Margaret Taylor.

    b) Annual General Meeting.  This will take place on 26 January 1989 in the Green Room at the Yateley Centre.  Any motions should be in plain English, and confined to matters of importance.  Advance notice needed to be given of these

    c) Annual Report: The Chairman will collate this.  He asked for cointributions by 9th December, and that they should be concise.  The following are responsible for the provision of items:

     Chairman: Overall review, Yateley Hall, Exec Committee, Countryside Subcomittee, Planning.

     Tony Hocking: Newsletter, May Fayre, Odiham, Socials.

     Valerie Kerslake: Toads, Conservation, Royal Oak Valley.

     Michael Holroyd: History, Commons and Footpaths, Go-Karts.

     Geoff Hoare: Membership.

     Irene Draper: Natural History.

     Elizabeth Tipton?: treeplanting.

6. Reports:

    Vice-Chairman the Christmas Social will take place on 9 December in the Green Room, Yateley Centre.  Help with raffle prizes and food welcome.  Jean McIlwaine wants to use Yateley Society display boards for an exhibition of "10 years after the fire" at the church. No objections were raised.

    Natural History: There would be a walk along the new Blackwater Valley path on 4 December, even though it was not yet open.

7. Next Meeting: Monday 19 December at 8pm at Barclay House.

AOB

Teatowels Valerie Kerslake proposed the Society obtain 200 teatowels with a Society design from Yateley Industries for sale at £2 each.  The item was deferred to the next meeting for designs to be sketched out.

Castle Bottom Geoff Hoare expressed concern about the safety of the lagoons above Castle Bottom.
